Christmas Number Two

Christmas number two was celebrated at home with Chad, Sarah, Brad, Andy, Dave and I. We missed having our new daughter-in-law here, but we tried to make the best of it for Andy. I did not cook nearly as much as Jessica did, but we did enjoy each others company.

We played board games after dinner. Well, we played Monopoly. Sarah and I quit early and let Andy and Chad battle it out. Then we played a few games of Uno, WARNING, Sarah cheats!!! Not really, she is just sooo lucky at that game. Even when we play with "Blake" household rules. Then we taught Sarah how to play Skip-bo. Guess who won again???? Not I. Told you, Sarah cheats...hehehe.

Brad enjoyed his play gym that Sarah's mom bought him. We set it up in the livingroom and he had a ball playing in it. Or should I say eating it. He is at that age where everything goes into his mouth. Even my soft cuddly cow (Sarah always seems to find the softest stuffed cows, I love them). That is alright, Nanny will spoil him and let him play with all my cows. Brad now puts his feet in his mouth. Of course once I got the camera, he stopped. I did get this picture of him and with Chad. Look at father and son. Brad is a little Chad, especially when Chad was that age.
My next post will address my return to the redneck side of my life. Can't you just wait to read it!!

Christmas times two.

What is better than Christmas? Two of them.

We celebrated Christmas with a dinner before Jessica and Margaret (her mom) headed back to California. Jessica cooked dinner. Ham, turkey, potatoes, green bean casserole, etc. Way too much food. Actually, I had to dispose of most of it before I could cook Christmas dinner on Christmas day. But it was delicious. Even the cheesecake Andy made (if you call pouring the premade filling into a pie crust~he told me had to make sure it was level so that counted as cooking.)

The Wednesday night before Margaret left we opened gifts. Everyone seemed to like what they received. Margaret and I had to love on the cow that "screams" when you pull his tail. We voted on the best gift of the night, Dave's jeep with two hunters in it and a deer tied to the hood. Press the button and the deer sings "Sweet Home Alabama." All you knowing Dave know this was the perfect gift. Made even more personal when Margaret and I wrote "Dave" and "Wade" on the hats of the hunters.

Life Happens

Where do I start?? It's been almost two months since I last posted. Why not start with the Wedding.

Andy and Jessica were married December 7th. Not until AFTER we had some excitement.

First, no minister, preacher, whatever to marry them. I took care of that the Saturday before the wedding. I was at my Christmas party for work (after giving up my Hockey ticket so Jessica could go with Andy) and was introduced to a co-worker's husband. This is the Rev. Harshaw. Well I had had a glass of wine and something else, and then again I am a "pushy Yankee", I reached over to shake his hand and said, "Rev. Harshaw, what are you doing Thursday? Would you like to marry my son?" He handed me his card, which I gave to the soon to be newly-weds so they could make arrangements. Thank you, Rev. Harshaw...we needed you.

Andy and Jess purchased the wedding rings the Saturday before the ceremony. Jess' had to be re-sized so she had yet to pick her ring up from the jeweler. They both proudly came in and showed me Andy's. Then left it in my living room. While cleaning on Sunday, I picked it up, still in the bag, and other things they had left in the living room and put them in Andy's room. Jess, on the other hand, was busily cleaning Andy's room and just picked up the bags, crumbled them up, and put them in the trash. Now Dave, after being nagged long enough, decided to burn the trash, instead of taking it to the dump (this was a blessing, trust me.)

Monday night, Jess asks me where I put the ring. She tells me she can not find it. After searching the house we both concluded, it must have been put in the trash. But now, instead of garbage can diving, we were both outside, digging through ashes in and around the burn barrel.

Jess found the ring, still in the box, the white gold now black. All I kept saying was its OK...we will fix it. All Jess kept saying was I burned his ring.

Once inside the house, I called the jewelers and explained what happened. They assured me they could polish the white gold ring and make it as good as new.

Driving to the jeweler, Jess kept saying, "his ring is black." Assuring her it was still OK, I explained that Chad's ring was black. Of course, his is suppose to be black.

At the jeweler, bad news. Burned too bad, can not fix it. The wonderful lady taking care of us called someone (who's name we should have got since this proved to be very important a little bit later) who told her to replace the ring~no charge. Unfortunately, they did not have one in Andy's size. Arrangements were made for us to pick one up in Rocky Mount. The great clerk (who's name also happened to be Jessica) even called the store to have them hold it for us. She packaged the old ring up with a copy of the receipt and a note who we should contact there and her name if they had any questions. Problem solved, right? NO WAY, we are talking Blake's here, nothing is that easy.

Andy, still not talking to Jess because she threw away his ring even before they were married, did not take Jess into Rocky Mount the next day to get the ring. Which if he had, things may have gone a little easier. Since Jessica is from California, she does not know how to get around out here in the Ol' North State, so she was grateful that he even drove her to my school so she and I could pick her mom up at that airport.

So on Tuesday, remember the wedding is Thursday, Jessica and I pick her mom up at the airport around 5 pm. Then we were off to David's Bridal to buy a wedding dress. Oh yeah, nothing like cutting it short! But while Jess took a phone call from her commanding officer, Margaret (Jessica's mom) and I found the perfect dress. Both of us agreed totally that this was the dress for her. Jess tried on the first one she picked out, it looked good, but the one mom and I picked out, THE BOMB baby! Jessica tried it on and she looked like a princess! Hard to believe since she is such a tomboy, do they still use that term or am I dating myself?

Buy the dress and, of course, a camouflaged garter with the USMC symbol on it, we were off to find something to cover her tattoos (tattooes, tatti, whatever the plural). Off to Belks where we purchased nearly $100.00 worth of body camouflage (how appropriate).

Too exhausted to shop any more, off to Olive Garden, where the three of us harassed the waiter and then home, where Andy meet his future mother-in-law for the first time.

Wednesday, December 6th. One more day before the wedding and we still had a list of things to do including picking up the ring and convincing Dave the deer head had to come off the wall for the ceremony the next day.

First on the list, off to Rocky Mount to pick up the ring. The clerk gets on the phone and calls customer service and the "woman" (I use that word loosely, as she does when she addresses me about our conversation to others) told the clerk they were not going to replace the ring. Jessica is a mess, the wedding is TOMORROW. Well, the Yankee in me was not going to take it. I started in. I told her we were told the ring was going to be replaced I wanted it replaced. Call the Wilson store. Conveniently, everyone involved was off that day (told you Andy should have take Jess to Rocky Mount on Tuesday). The customer service "woman" and I had some choice words, including her telling me not to yell at her. Yell, she hadn't seen, I mean HEARD, me yell yet. I kept trying to explain to her that we were told the ring would be replaced and I wanted it replaced. Standing in the doorway of the jewelers in the Mall so everyone could hear, I told her this situation will be fixed to my satisfaction or else. I hung up the phone, told Margaret and Jess we were headed to Wilson to that store.

As we were exiting the Mall, I decided to call the Wilson store to let them know we were on the way. After my behavior I half expected the Rocky Mount store to call and warn them and we would be greeted by the Wilson County Sheriff. But instead they told us that Jess ring was ready for pick up. Of course, adrenalin still flowing through my veins, I told her if we didn't get any satisfaction on this wedding ring they could take the $1,600.00 bridal set and (no I wanted to but didn't say it) keep it and we would go else where. That is when she told me wait, she knew her manager was working on something. After being put on hold, she returned and asked me where I was. After telling me not to leave Rocky Mount until I heard from her, Jess, Margaret and I sat outside the mall, plotting our next move.

Attorney General, Consumer Affairs, Better Business Bureau, all on our short list of people to contact. Better yet, 5 on our side, I thought. I could see it now, two Marines, soldiers fighting for our country, getting the run around less than 24 hours before their wedding because the jeweler was backing out on a verbal agreement. We decided we needed coffee, yes, I was not psyched enough, pump some caffeine in those veins, when the Wilson store contacted us. The manager on the other line said "Miss Robin," (not Ms. Blake, they were trying to make it all better). "Give me five minutes and you may go into the Rocky Mount store and pick up your ring."

VICTORY!!!

The three of us took a walk through the book store before walking into the jewelers. The woman there, in her ever present state of wickedness, tells us that the only reason they are exchanging the ring is because the manager of the Wilson store said they would. DUH!!!!! had you not listened to a single word we said dummy!!! I proceeded to tell her, "Yes, and the only reason I gave you a hard time, and your customer service department, was because WE WERE TOLD you would replace it." Had they told us they could not fix it and would not replace it on Monday night when Jess and I first took the ring in, I would have bought a new one.

Well, the good guys, or good girls, won that day. I hated to show my new daughter in law and her mother the Yankee~Redneck side of me, but you don't tell me one thing and then do something else. I will fight tooth and nail in that instance.

I'm going to have to post the rest later. This was a long story. I haven't even told you about the rest of the day, which included getting our picture taken on Santa's lap (did you know Santa is a Jarhead?). In short, wedding happened, they are married, in love, and Jess is back at 29 Palms in California as Andy finds an apartment and home for them in Jacksonville.

Congrats kids, Momma Loves Ya!

Trunk or Treat and a whole lot more.

Look at my babies, Chad, Brad and Sarah, all enjoying trick or treating at Chad and Sarah's church. Brad makes the perfect "Superbaby". Too small to 'beg' for candy, he had fun watching his cousin, Jay, make the rounds and more fun as Chad and I "flew" him between the two of us.

A whole lot of news stuff happening. Andy came home last weekend and told me he and Jessica were not getting married in May, NO NO...They are getting married in December. December 7 to be exact. Now we are planning a wedding for the middle of the week. Luckily, they want a very small wedding, immediate family only. So we will be having a Christmas wedding in our living room.

Chad told me tonight that they may be planning to deploy his unit again. This has really upset me. Lynda's (my friend) brother has just gone back to Iraq. The whole idea that he may go back scares me to death. I don't know how I will handle it. I hope the doctor has a whole lot of prescription pads to write those anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, anti-unable to cope medicine.

Until next time.....

The Best Looking Baby in the World...

At least in my opinion, no one else's matters. How can I not think he is the best looking baby in the world. And considering I have not life, just get up, go to work, come home, work some more, head to bed, repeat the next morning, all I have to look forward to is this little man's visits. He spent Saturday night with me. Brad was all smiles and giggles when I talked to him about watching the Hurricanes play and letting him wear my jersey...Pardon me...sweater, but he couldn't keep his eyes open long enough to see the puck drop. Poor honey.

Its hard to believe Brad is four months old already. I don't ever want him to stop being a little cuddle bug. I know how fast they grow and soon, Brad will be all grown up, just like my boys. Sometime between breakfast and dinner, bam....they became men. All I wanted to do was protect them from the world.

As for the Hurricanes....lets just hope a few days off will help them regroup. Some nasty woman in the stands behind me almost got hurt Friday night. Slamming the Canes, talking about "oh these are Stanley Cup Champions..yadda yadda yadda" I should have grabbed her by her hair, dragged her to where the Stanley Cup was on display and said, "yeah..its here in our house...not yours!!"

Chad and Sarah are doing well, even though they have been down to one vehicle the past few weeks. You know, if its not one things, its another. Sarah has a birthday this weekend. Trying to figure out what to get her. All while the boys were growing up I wanted to have a girl to buy for. Now I have girls to buy for and have no idea what to buy them.

Until whenever...Good Night.

UNBELIEVABLE

Andy is getting married!!! I can't believe it!!!! Never would have thought he would get married!!! He is marrying Jessica. She is wonderful. Already a part of our family. Now I really have a reason to stick to this weight watchers. So in May I can be the "skinny" mother of the groom.

They want to get married at our house. Its going to take me from now till then to get it clean. I guess I better get busy!!!!!

Here We go Again....

How many times have I joined Weight Watchers? How many times have I gained and lost the weight back? Well lets add one more to the list. But I have to do something with my blood pressure going up. I have enough problems...high blood pressure is not another one I need.

Whewww...

Where do I start??? Been a busy couple of weeks.
I spent some time with the little grandbaby....My little Gunner. I've decided to call him that...just to be different. We are looking forward to a camping trip with him and Chad and Sarah at the end of the month, and then again our annual Halloween Weekend at Green Acres campground. Trying to think of a good costume for him??? Any ideas.

Lynda, Gwen and I went to the rodeo last weekend. Found ourselves some really nice "Wranglers" and contrary to what Dave thinks, Real Men can pull off pink. I'm still trying to figure out how he knew my favorite for the rodeo wore a pink shirt. Lynda, Gwen, I know one of you had to say something. Tattletales.

On the 10th, I walked ONE mile of the Stanley Cup 5K race with Jenn while Chris ran. Of course the best part was TOUCHING the Stanley Cup. I did not realize that it was a middle finger on the NJ. Devils. One of those unconscious moves I guess.

School has been really busy. I'm glad I made the move to a new school. I'm busy, overwhelmed, and exhausted but its been a good experience. Of course 27 kids in a class is a little much. And from all ends of the spectrum too. 7 Gifted, 7 Title 1, and 3 CCR students. Talk about working those classes I've taken on differentiation! Luckily we have a really good AG teacher helping me with ideas and a great CCR staff offering suggestions. Now...I just need some extra days added to the week to get it all done.

Speaking of done...I better go clean house now. Gunner (and his parents) are on their way over sometime today. Since I've been working like a dog during the week, and partying like an animal on the weekends, I better get this house in some sort of "presentable" form before it starts all over again tomorrow.

PS... NO spell check on this thing??? Or at least I can not find it...so no comments on my spelling...

School Starts

And I am just slightly overwhelmed!! New school, new procedures. No clerical help during work days so all that labeling, putting up posters, etc, that I am so use to having Sarah help me with, nada...nothing...nil. On first impression, even though I have a very large class, they seem pretty good. I do have one who told me that he was off his ADD meds....and it shows...may need to call mom on that one. And have another who probably needs meds...but if that is all I have to deal with, Praise God.

Dave and I celebrated our 25th anniversary by laying around, watching tv...and eating all day. Like I need that. I was nice to have him back after his trip to PA for his sister's funeral.

Well, its Sunday afternoon and I still have plans to write. Chris...I thought you were suppose to do that for me?? or at least find me a cushy job like yours.

He keeps on growing

Brad just keeps on getting bigger and bigger. Funny how babies just seem to do that. He's at the age now where he stays awake so much during the day, but he is hard to entertain. Not quite old enough to entertain himself. But I loved putting him in the bouncy seat and telling him stories. He loves how a cow says MOOOO

I get to babysit Saturday while Chad and Sarah go to Busch Gardens. I'm really looking forward to it. Some Brad and Nanny time.

Back to school tomorrow. Of course I am in a workshop most of the day...but then we are off to preparing the rooms for the bright and eager students coming in on Aug. 25. I just want a part of their energy. I spent too much time working this summer...going to stay home do nothing next summer.

White Water Rafting

I couldn't believe that I went white water rafting. What a trip! When I signed up for the multimedia workshop at NCCAT who would have thought I would spend a day on Nantahala River with the other seminar participants. I was scared to death that morning, but once we got on the river, it was awesome.

Our guide, Crystal, was fantastic. She loved hitting things like rocks, bridges, etc. which added excitement to our trip. When you hit a rock you spin around which makes the trip a little more exciting.

The river way all class 1 to class 3 rapids. The class 3 was the ride over the falls at the end of the trip. Considering we all stayed in the raft, what an accomplishment.

The rest of the NCCAT seminar was just as good. We learned a lot about using multimedia in the class. I'm anxious to put what I learned into use in the classroom. Since teachers go back to school this week, I guess I'll be able to use it sooner, than later.

Visit with Brad ~and other nonsense.

Look at those eyes!! How can anyone not just fall in love with this boy.

Brad came over last night to spend some time with Nanny and Pap-pap. Slept most of the time...but snuggled with me a bit. I read Moo, Baa, Lalala, to him. (the book was a gift from our media specialist, her favorite 'grandma' book). I don't think he heard a word. He did wake up long enough for me to feed him. Guzzled that bottle down like you would not believe. No wonder he is growing so fast.

When Sarah put him in the car seat to take him home, out popped those wide eyes. I had to grab the camera to get this pic. Before they left the house, Brad was tying to snooze again.

Now on to my other babies, Bear and Tara. Man, for two healthy dogs it sure did cost enough at the vet. Of course shots, flea meds, heartworm test, heartworm med, yadda yadda, adds up. So much for having that credit card paid off.

Its really hot here today. Heat index is suppose to be somewhere between 100-105. I have to work at the stadium tonight so I'm not really that thrilled about it. Luckily, I'm suppose to be selling tickets, well I better be selling tickets, in the airconditioning. I wonder just how big a crowd we will have in this heat. Especially since it is Advertiser's Appreciation night. Hot enough today that I took the summer school students to the gym for recess instead of outdoors in the heat. So hot outside, even the pool does not provide relief, since the water is 90 degrees.

Big Trip Today

Okay, you may not consider it a big trip, but you have never tried to take my two dogs to the vet at the same time. Why I torture myself with this I'll never know. Its probably been 2 or 3 years since I've taken them to the vet. They are getting old (Tara is 11 Bear is 13) and I am hesitant to take them to the vets. You never know what will be found, etc, Poor Bear definately has some hip problems. After putting Miss Kitty to sleep last year, the vet has not been my favorite place.

This has been an aweful year for fleas. These poor babies of mine are lousy with them. I know the vet has a "magic pill", I call it, that kills all the fleas on the dogs. I'm hoping this will help us get control of these nasty critters.

Brad has been at the beach with his momma and other grandparents this week. I can't wait for him to come home. I'll bet he has grown so much. There definately will be new pictures. I bought a swing to keep at the house last weekend at the flea market. Washed up and looks brand new. I still need to get him a pack and play.

Americas' Sail

WOW....cool ship, hot weather. Of course I only wanted to see the Pirate Ship~Go Sinbad!!!!

Don't Dave and I look so happy to be there. That is what 25 years of marriage does to you. Here we are sitting on the deck of the Wolf.

Americas' Sail was really neat. We only saw the ship at Beaufort, we didn't venture to Moorehead. It was just too hot to go there after standing in the heat for 3 hours touring these ships.

Time to go...got to go to work..Yuck.

Just Too Cute

At least I have the Little Brad to hold on to. It eases the pain of the Carolina Hurricanes losing game 5. Thats ok, lets take it in Edmonton, see just how those thiefs (having to steal a silver dollar out of the ice) like having the Stanley Cup given to the opposing team in their house. Should teach them a lesson.

Bought paint tonight to start painting my kitchen. Finally! WE have only lived here 4 years. Some rooms painted some not....and the kitchen definately needs paint. So I have the next few days planned out for me, until Saturday night...When we kick the Oiler's behind.

I'm a Grandma....

Me......a grandma....funny I don't feel like a grandma. Well, yesterday I did, I could barely walk after spending 14 hours in the waiting room to see my first grandbaby arrive. Bradley Gunner Blake....The most special little fella I've ever seen (looks just like me). Poor honey gave his momma a hard time coming into this world but has been the best baby since then.

I'll never forget Chad just walking into the waiting room, with that silly grin on his face, and grabbing ahold of me, just crying. I asked if the baby was here, he just nodded. I asked is everyone alright, he just nodded again. What a proud daddy he is. I'm so proud of him, myself.

I' don't know if I'll ever get over the disappointment of not being in the room for the delivery. I really wanted to see my first grandbaby take his first breath and cry his first cry. I am glad that I was there to hold him so soon after his birth.

I had told everyone I didn't want to be a grandma until I was 50, but that wasn't my choice. As the time got closer for Sarah to deliver, the more anxious I got.

I went to the hospital to visit them last night. I got to hold him, change him and feed him. He ate really well for Nanny.....better than he did for his momma and daddy. Oh I can't wait for him to come home so I can spoil him rotten. I really stayed too long and kept the new parents up too late. Because I had to work yesterday, I didn't want them to think I didn't want to be there.

I talked to Chad and they all came home today. They were getting ready to take a nap. I have decided to wait until tomorrow night to go play grandma again.
